i'm smoother than words
• • • full name: ruki hidenori kiyoshi • • • nicknames: n/a • • • gender: male • • • date of birth & age: may 22nd, nineteen • • • sexuality: homosexual • • • race: raven shifter • • • face claim: dark mousy + dnangel you're smoother than curves
Hair: in some perspective, ruki's hair is indeed quite long, though it's mostly his bangs and the hair reaching the front of his face that carries most of the length, and the back is somewhat short and choppy. it's a deep purple color, and it's usually left to fly free.
Eyes: mainly they are a nice amethyst shade, and at others appear to take on a rose coloring, but ruki shrugs it off to something that deals with his shifting phases, which is the only other feature that adds to the difficulty of him blending in with the humans.
Height: 6 ft
Weight: 140 lbs, more or less seeing as he has quite the slender frame, though he'd be labeled toned rather than skinny.
Piercings/Tattoos: both of ruki's ears are pierced, though it depends on the occasion whether or not he'll place something there, even then the range of earings is limitless. most of the time it'll be a single black stud, and at others it'll be some silver piece of metal.
Anything else?: ruki's choice in the clothing he wears is an interesting one indeed, though he fully gives off the appearance of being comfortable in the outfits that adorn his body, or one would rather say cling. he seems to hold a preference for black clothing, though equally dark shades and possibly even white will be thrown into his wardrobe every now and again. most of the articles of clothing he owns are made out of leather or some other silk fabric, only a few appearing odd in his closet. either way, ruki doesn't like being entirely confined to his clothes, which means most of the time they'll be no sleeve, short sleeved, or just liable to show some portion of chest or skin. obviously not shy or meek. i speak so eloquently
intelligent , it's been noticed from a young age that he was one intelligent boy, being able to make sense of things even when his parents couldn't. a large vocabulary and being on a level that transcends most young adults his age. ruki was always the type of child that seemed to lack the ignorance and invincibility that came with age, and unfortunately that had more of a negative effect than a positive one. he does as much as he can to make others understand that he's more than just a pretty face, but most don't listen. all of this has led him to be more of the evil, conniving villain instead of the hero. most of his brains goes toward thinking how he'll get out of a situation or how he'll be able to convince someone to do what he wants.
charismatic , despite the overly negative look of ruki's personality, he has a certain something to him that attracts people nonetheless. it's not just his outer appearance, some people can actually sense that there's a quality to him that's overly magnetic. whether it's the way they realize that secretly something he did in order to 'advance himself' was done for their benefit and not truly his own, or how there's a whole other side to him that inspires them without either of them knowing it. it's there, and unfortunately, ruki doesn't even realize it's one of the best personality traits he has.
physical , despite the lack of trust he has in humanity, ruki is really a big hearted guy. most of this is shown through touch, not the sexual kind, this is a touch that actually shows innocence and only the want to make others feel better. whether it's a hug that lasts a little longer than it should, or a hand gently stroking their face without his conscious understanding of why. most people find that they're intimidated by this, seeing as it's rare that most people have met a person with such a genuine motive. most of this is done when sterling's head is elsewhere, when he's distracted and not allowed to stop it from happening. the kind of physical being can also come into the sense of fights, but still in the way that's meant to be helpful. like when a friends in danger or if he's defending someone else's honor, everything physical in this manner is meant to make others feel better and not to just feed his lust.
vain , there's a reason why people have such a negative opinion of ruki, it's a little hard when it's the one negative trait that's actually visible. outer and inner, his one obsession is the beauty that comes with other people. the more common form is the actual looks of the person, and whether they would be classified as 'attractive' or not. it has to do with his own appearance as well, always trying to impress other people when he shouldn't. ruki has always been the type to make it known that he is 'better looking' than most people. it's more commonly done in a bitchy manner, but sterling does it in a way that actually makes people smile or laugh. it must be the little sense of joking or amusement he shows when he makes a comment, and somehow being completely serious as well when he does it. no matter, his obsession with vanity comes in more than one form, like when he's also distracted by the other persons vanity, and sometimes it doesn't even have to be a person.
cynical , since he was a kid he quickly understood that nothing is as it truly seems and this really messed him up. being taken away by the fbi and being twisted into some form of shirting creature certainly didn't help. naturally, he doesn't believe in a person that's truly selfless or sincere. it's probably the reason why ruki refuses to rely on anyone other than himself. this is where ruki's sarcastic opinion on most things stems from. if his parents couldn't save him when he was child, than why will anyone else fight for him now in such a surrounding of lies and manipulators? it's better not to get his hopes up that someone really exists out there with a sincere sense of goodness for others and in their own actions.
dark , dark humor, dark views, it really explains why ruki might be a little intimidating or even eccentric at times. most people are really sensitive on certain subjects, and ruki almost seems to lack this. whether it's mocking the thought of death or taunting something that's obviously a fragile subject. ruki doesn't really see the bad in it, and why most people are so uptight over so many things when it would make life so much easier to loosen up a bit. it's not really all that surprising that ruki asked why he couldn't pick his favorite super villain instead of a favorite hero when he was a little kid. he always loved them for their originality, how they seemed so much more interesting and genuine than the super heroes, and how in some way their motives had to do with something far more deeper than they were presented as. it doesn't matter, ruki knows that he will never quite truly be lumped together with the rest of society, and that he won't be the one to suggest the right choice in a situation.
secretive , probably the one thing that ruki's good at, hiding in plain sight. people would think this was a little easier to notice, but with ruki that's not the case. some people try to turn around in the split second they choose to look away to see if ruki did anything different in the moment he was out of their line of vision. the thing is, ruki's done nothing in that split second, just remained as he was before. he's a hundred percent truthful, so much that people believe he's lying. what more would someone expect from someone who's so awful? however, it seems to be exactly what ruki wants from people. it's already been stated he's not stupid, he knows exactly what people are thinking, and he uses that to advantage. he can completely act himself and people will think it's just a show.
compassionate , one of the sides of ruki so few get to see, the fact that he actually has a caring side to himself that connects with the feelings of everyone else. it doesn't matter what it has to do with, more than likely ruki's going to be moved by it. but he's not perfect, that much is certain, seeing as he has a hard time comforting anyone in a bad situation. he can sit there and let you cry on his shoulder, but don't expect him to know what to say or do to make you feel better. that's the thing, sterling is dragged into most situations because he can't find himself saying no, he might not be so upfront about wanting to help someone but you shouldn't doubt it's existence.
misunderstood , the most horrible thing that ruki actually notices when it comes to him and other people. it's actually one of the main reasons he's portrayed as he is. why try to change their impression of him when they're so bent on him playing the bad guy? why not give them exactly what they want and expect? there is a stereotype that he's expected to live up to, and sterling would rather live a life of luxury following that than exhausting himself trying to budge people from their views. really, sterling's cynicism can't be of much help. let's see if you can catch it.
complex , really, everything previously stated should help you understand just how much of a tangle and knotted mess his personality and emotions truly are. most people only see one face, and that's the one they'll cling to as long as they know him. no one's willing to open up any of the other doors, too afraid they'll drown in everything that makes him. it's really not that much of a surprise ruki doesn't trust anyone, most of them are only willing to accept one side of him out of their own selfishness in the matter. ruki is simply the mirror reflecting their own expressions and inner wants, if he does something horrible it's because it was something reflected from you. just try not to go crazy making sense of everything.
• • • loves: you'll find that ruki loves a number of things, though only a few are considered worth holding on to. his electric violin would be one of them, simply because it was the only thing keeping him sane during the experimentation process. books would be another source of comfort, though you'll have to sneak up on him to catch him reading one. there's just something about hair that captures his attention, it's basically the first thing he takes notice of when looking at someone. call him a romantic, call him whatever you wish, but the fact still stands that ruki loves roses. next is his favorite fruit, the one thing that'll certainly get someone in his good graces, strawberries. he's not all too sure why, though it may just be the mystery, but masks seem to hold an endless curiosity for him. lastly, other males would certainly be on his lists of ultimate loves.
• • • hates: might as well considered yourself walking softly if you do any of these things. ruki absolutely hates those that make a lot of assumptions and then refuse to hear the truth. speaking of truth, ruki detests liars, that will never change. narrow minded people might as well avoid talking to ruki at all. even before being made into some raven shifting being, ruki has never liked cats very much. rules have never been his thing, and the fbi certainly isn't making him put forth an effort to listen. girls just don't seem to make for easy socializing, especially when they have catty attitudes. did he mention he didn't like cats very much? anyway, in the end, nothing's worse than people who believe ignorance is the key to life.
• • • flaws: ruki has never been good with comforting people, this awkward silence just tends to pop up and makes things worse. he's never had much patience to begin with, and he'll usually get frustrated quite easily, or bored depending on what he's doing. there have been complaints before that ruki seems to get a little too comfortable, often enough touching and brushing up against others, though at times he's not aware or just wishes to make others uncomfortable and squirmy to see if they'll respond.
• • • secrets: had actually been arranged to get married to some nice little girl before the fbi dragged him off to start their experiments, seeing at the time ruki hadn't made it obvious he was gay. keeps the name of that someone that was with him during experimentation to himself and will run off whenver he gets a rumor that the person in question is close by, wasting no time in setting off in search.
• • • fears: the usual fear of dying at a young age would probably count as one, though his overly confident personality doesn't suggest it. being responsible or causing the death of someone close to him. the last would be to fall in love with someone who did not return the feelings, which in his mind would be soul shattering.
you won't have a chance to deny me
i was born , the small amethyst eyed baby was brought into the arms of a very happy hitomi on a nice, calm day in may. it was the twenty second to be exact, a birthday he shared with someone, which would soon be brought to his attention as that day would come. that day was one to be stored into their memory, one to look back on and cherish, seeing as ruki turned out to be their first, and being a boy only proved to make daichi one proud father. at the age of thirty-five you would have expected the man to have had a few kids already, but ruki was their miracle baby, the only one they thought they would ever had. they would soon be surprised with another boy, but that's getting ahead of ourselves here. daichi had been told years before that there would be no hope of him having children, it just didn't seem to be in his future, but he refused to give up when he met the lovely hitomi. he devoted a good three years in fertility research, trying to find a way to give his lovely wife the child she so wanted for such a young woman. and now he had won that battle, for a time at least.
i was raised , ruki had a pretty normal life for the first twelve years of his life, but then again, one doesn't expect something strange as what would soon happen to him. he proved to be a good little boy, following everything his parents told him to and proving to be an even better student. however, it was certain from the age five that ruki wasn't quite as normal, he seemed to lack that softer edge that came with childhood. being around a scientist could possibly be excuse enough, especially with the type of work he took part in, though ruki was never allowed to know anyway. most of the time his parents were gone, being raised by his grandparents instead, and it was slowly becoming obvious that he favored them more. daichi was beginning to worry that whatever he had used to help conceive ruki was affecting his mental health, though hitomi shrugged it off as their little boy having some problems being socially aware. but truly, how aware do you expect a five year old to be when it comes to socially interacting, especially when it became apparent he didn't know how to be? his baby brother changed that soon enough though, not quite making a large difference, but enough that ruki wished to develop his own personality. you'll notice ruki doesn't speak of takeo much, mostly because the young boy seems pretty much a mystery on his own. years quickly passed after that, and ruki was beginning to change more and more, only his appearance now followed close behind. his father grew somewhat angry, mostly because of the frustration something at work had been causing and the fact he had to deal with telling his oldest son that he was expected to be wed to some little girl that lived down the road from them. it wasn't done to spite the young boy, but it seemed best for both families that this should be the outcome. it wouldn't matter, the people his father worked with had been keeping a close eye on his family. seeming to want something from the small group of four, and boy were they going to do whatever it took to get what they wanted.
i was imprisoned , most of ruki's history is a blur to him, but he can remember this day quite clearly, so much that at times he'll grow furious at the mere thought of it. it was on a sunny summer day, he'd been sent outside to play with his future bride, mostly because his parents believed he wasn't showing as much interest in this as they wished he would. he had sat down picking flowers with her in a small field, seeming to listen quietly as she rambled on about some useless bit of information on exactly what type of plants they were. ruki just stared at the small yellow flower in hand, never even getting the feeling that today would be the last day of his normal life. it was on the walk back home that the event hit, the one the littler girl would escape but he could not. the fbi usually got what they wanted, something he would grow scornful to in the near future. they had plucked him right off the side of the road, his tiny frame of a twelve year old not helping him any. how he wished he could have done something thing, how he wished that stupid little girl hadn't just stood there staring the entire time, how he wished that he hadn't been born in such a family destined for failure. any little details from there were gone, only remembering this darkness that had engulfed his world before he suddenly woke up in some white room that smelled strangely of odd chemicals. he woke up strapped down to some medical table, strangers quickly working around him, suddenly invading his personal space as they poked and prodded. no concern that he was only twelve, no concern for the little boy on the table beside him that was going through the exact same thing. the little blonde haired boy sharing his hell was the same age, their birthdays the exact same day, they would be considered the gemini twins from then on. the little blonde boy with liquid gold eyes, the only one he could share his pain with. the rest was a blur from there, though most will say he purposely blocked out the memories, but it won't make any use questioning him. the only thing he can specify is the day he chose his animal, figured out what he would be. a raven, that's all that could enter his mind as he looked down at the clothes covering his body and watch the hair cover his face. he also remembers his gemini twin picking something completely different, something oh so pure in appearance, something contrastingly white to his black. a dove, and ruki is damn sure it was done to push at his buttons.
i am free , at last, at the age of sixteen he was free, though it seemed more like they tossed him out and practically said 'try to survive, try to fit in'. for once the gemini twins wouldn't be placed together, and he fully believes it was done to spite him, to make the journey that much more difficult. he spent the first year walking the streets, trying to make sense of things, only having the belongings they had stuffed in a large duffel bag and thrown at him. he'd frantically pulled the bag open at that time, making sure they hadn't harmed the silver instrument shining with an unreal beauty. it was all fine, he just needed to find a way to stand on his own two feet, but years away from the real world had taken it's toll. he didn't know what the hell was going on, and he would continue wandering that way until he had been taken in by some rogue shifter group. they weren't the nicest bunch, as a matter of fact they were all criminals, hateful toward the fbi and anything that wasn't shifter blood. that was the only reason they took him in, that and the darkness that had made a permanent home of his body. they taught him things, things not exactly legal, things that could land him in serious trouble that would be doubled considering what he was. ruki adopted their ways, slowly developing a burning hate toward the fbi and a slight aggressiveness toward humans. the only thing that kept him going was the thought of finding his other half, the light to his darkness somewhere out there...
